There are currently 18 Alolan Pokémon.

Alolan Pokémon are Pokémon that take on a different form when they appear in the Alola region. Alola is the setting for the Generation VII Sun and Moon series. These Pokémon are special because they have adapted to the Alola region and can use powers typically associated with Alola. Alolan Pokémon that appear in later regions retain their Alolan form and powers.

What is the Alola Region?

Alola Region

The Alola Region is the setting for the Generation VII Sun and Moon series and is based on Hawaii. It is made up of five separate islands. Melemele Island, Akala Island, Ula’ula Island, and Poni Island are natural islands while Aether Paradise is an artificial island.

Rattata is a Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. Rattata is a Normal type Pokémon but Alolan Rattata is a Dark / Normal type Pokémon. Its Alolan form uses its whiskers to whiskers to pick up the scent of hidden food and locate it instantly. Alolan Rattata evolve to Alolan Raticate.

In Alolan form it is grey and a Rock / Electric type. Its stone head is imbued with electricity and magnetism. If you carelessly step on one, you’ll be in for a painful shock.
