What are Holon Energy GL Cards?

Holon Energy GL Cards are Special Energy Cards that are used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). The GL refers to Grass and Lightning Energy as these cards provide special effects when combined with Grass or Lightning Energy. They were first introduced in 2005 with the launch of the EX Deoxys expansion set and last seen in the EX Dragon Frontiers set of 2006. Holon Energy GL cards were released alongside Holon Energy FF and Holon Energy WP Cards.

Holon Energy GL cards provide one Colorless Energy. However if the Pokémon already has a Grass Energy attached, it can’t be affected by Special Conditions. If the Pokémon already has a Lightning Energy attached, then any damage done by the opponent’s ex is reduced by 10. There is only one design for this card and it includes the Colorless Energy symbol. In the Pokémon TCG, a player can only use an Attack Move if the specified number of Energy are attached. This specified number generally includes one or more Energy that corresponds to the Pokémon type, and / or a number of Colorless Energy. Holon Energy GL Cards provide one Colorless Energy.

The text on the cards reads:

‘Holon Energy GL provides Colorless Energy.
If the Pokémon that Holon Energy GL is attached to also has a basic Energy card attached to it, that Pokémon can’t be affected by any Special Conditions. If the Pokémon that Holon Energy GL is attached to also has a basic Energy card attached to it, damage done by your opponent’s Pokémon-ex is reduced by 10. Ignore these effects if Holon Energy GL is attached to Pokémon-ex.’
