Grass Energy Cards – Info & Gallery

What are Grass Energy Cards?

Grass Energy Cards are one of the nine Basic Energy Cards that are used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). They were introduced when the game was launched in 1996 and have been a feature of the TCG ever since.

Although there have been many design changes over the years, Grass Energy Cards are always predominantly green and always feature the Grass symbol of a black leaf on a green circle. (Scroll to bottom for timeline and gallery of all designs to date).

Grass Energy Cards Symbol

Grass Energy corresponds to Grass and Bug type Pokémon. Their cards always include the Grass Energy symbol in the top right hand corner. In order to use an Attack Move of a Grass or Bug type Pokémon, the player will need to attach the specified number of Grass and/or Colorless Energy Cards. The numbers required are indicated by the symbols to the left of the Attack Move.

A Grass Energy Card can also be used when the Colorless Energy symbol appears because Colorless Energy can be any type of Energy.

Leafeon VMAX

The Leafeon VMAX card from Evolving Skies has two Attacks. To use Grass Knot the player must attach one Grass Energy and one Colorless Energy. To use the Max Leaf Attack, two Grass Energy and one Colorless Energy are required.

Timeline of Grass Energy Cards:

To date there have been 18 different designs of Grass Energy Cards. Energy Cards were given numbers up to the release of the Sun and Moon series in 2017. The only Basic Energy cards to be given numbers from 2017 onwards are those that are released as Ultra or Secret Rares.
