What is the Galar Region?

Galar Region - Sword and Shield

The Galar Region is a new Pokémon region introduced in 2019 with the launch of the Generation VIII Sword and Shield. The image shows the Wild Area of the Galar Region which is first seen fairly early in the game.  The Wild Area is a vast area that is full of Pokémon of differing levels.

Some earlier generation Pokémon that can be found in the Galar Region have taken on a new regional form. These Pokémon are given the adjective Galarian to distinguish them from their original form. In the Trading Card game, these Pokémon have improved abilities as they take on Generation VIII abilities.
