This Pokémon is a dark creature that resembles a phantom or ghost. It is predominantly black with a red spiky appendage around its neck and a white plume extending from its head. It chases people and Pokémon from its territory by causing them to experience deep, nightmarish slumbers.

In Mega form Darkrai is much bigger and heavier. The distinctive arm-like appendages of its regular form, numerous wispy black tendrils protrude from its body. Its dark power blocks out the sun, plunging the surrounding area into darkness. There is no escaping its evil eye.
