What is the Alakazam ex Collection?
The Alakazam Collection is the fourth Collection box to be released in the Scarlet and Violet Series. This fourth box in the series is being released as part of the Scarlet & Violet 151 special expansion set. It has a recommended retail price of £23.99 in the UK and $21.99 in the US.
The Alakazam ex Box is scheduled for release on 6th October 2023 two weeks after the launch of Scarlet & Violet 151. It is being released alongside the Zapdos ex Collection.
The released image of the box shows a change from the rectangular format of earlier ex boxes and the V boxes of the Sword and Shield series to a squarer format. The box dimensions have not been released but given that a Pokémon card is 6.3 cm wide we can assume the box is around 20cm by 20cm (8in by 8 in).
The artwork for the box features a cut out window showing the contents of the box surrounded by the Scarlet & Violet 151 design that shows the 151 Generation I Pokémon in cartoon form. Alakazam is depicted in the bottom right hand corner.
The recommended retail price for the box is £23.99 in the UK and $21.99 in the US.
What are the contents of the Alakazam ex Collection?
The contents of the box have been revealed and in a change from previous boxes, there is no Jumbo card. The contents of the box are:
1 Alakazam ex Promo card SVP050
1 Abra card 063/165
1 Kadabra card 064/165
an online code card
4 Booster Packs
Is the Alakazam ex Collection Box good value for money?
The box contains one Alakazam ex Black Star Promo Card, an Abra and Kadabra Card from Scarlet & Violet 151 and 4 Booster packs. Individual booster packs generally retail for around £4 in the UK and $4 in the US. Following a lawsuit with Uri Geller, the card Kadabra has not been printed for 18 years. With the lifting of the ban this is the first print of the card in 18 years and means that the card and the set could be in high demand. An Alakazam ex Promo card is likely to cost around £4.00 $4.00 while the Abra and Kadabra cards are likely to be obtained for around £2 or $2 each.
Four Booster packs would therefore cost £16 ($16) adding the expected value of the three cards takes the total to around £24.00 or $24.00 which is the retail price in the UK and slightly more than the retail price in the US. The box is therefore reasonable value for money.
